MEYER MINUTES

One Mother's Day, a grandfather visited his daughter and 18-month-old grandson. It had been a very hectic day for "mom" mostly due to the child's bad behavior. In exasperation mom put the child in his playpen with some strict words to settle down. She told him she would get him out when he had settled down and went upstairs. Soon the child was screaming and wailing about his temporary imprisonment. When he stood up at the side of the playpen, he saw his grandfather sitting across the room. He put his arms in the air and said, "Grandpa up". The grandfather said, "No we can't break mom's law, she said you need to stay in there until she gets you out". The child began sobbing, which tore at grandpa's heart. But he held his resolve not to interfere. The child cried out again and again, "Grandpa up". Now the grandfather was beside himself and got out of his chair calling out, "Shh, no, you need to stay in there. I can't get you out". But the child sobbed again, "Grandpa up". Grandpa looked around again and looked up the stairs, then came back to the side of the playpen. Looking around again and again to see if the coast was clear. He slowly and carefully placed one leg over the playpen and then the other, joining his beloved grandson in his prison.
This story reminds all of us about the power of Christ becoming human. God could not rescue us from our sins by breaking any of His laws. This would not be possible, so instead He did the unthinkable and unimaginable, He entered our world as a baby. He joined us that through Him we will join God forever.
Thank you to Karin Irigon and her mom for sharing this story.
