Karin graduated from the University of Washington in 2002 with a bachelor's degree in American Ethnic Studies with an Asian American focus. She received her Masters degree in Education from the UW in 2005. Karin did her teaching internship in the Shoreline School District and substituted there until joining Concordia's staff in September 2006.

Karin has had personal experience with dyslexia, a learning disability that causes reading and other learning challenges. She has a passionate desire to help all students active to their potential, and Karin feels strongly that the smaller class size at Concordia is a great benefit to students and will help them succeed academically and spiritually. Karin's mother and her aunt graduated from Concordia in 1958 and 1959.

Karin is an active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she will be co-facilitating the Sunday evening contemporary worship service. She has been trained in the Lindamood-Bell Learning Process and she is a member of the UW's alumni association, Sigma Kappa Sorority Alumni Association, Phi Kappa Delta Association, Orton Dyslexia Society, and Learning Disability Association of Washington.

Karin was married on New Year's Eve, 2005, to Paix Irigon, and is enjoying learning about and participating in his Filipino culture.
